Bookish Discussion: NaNoWriMo

What Is NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month the premise of which is to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. This works out to roughly 1,667 words a day which is no small feat!

Last year I participated in NaNo Warm Up where I wrote a 25,000 word start to a novel. There were days when I struggled to get to 800 words a day and other days when I'd write 3,000 but eventually it all evened out and I met my goal!

If you are doing NaNoWriMo and would like to add me as a writing buddy feel free to do so my username is: Kitchuel.

Whatcha Writing About?
Write the book you want to see on the shelf. I've seen this advice from many different authors and have taken it to heart. I've extensively outlined and will be writing a YA novel based loosely the Nazi persecution of the Gypsies during World War II (think Code Name Verity and Prisoner of Night and Fog).

I wrote an academic paper on the subject during undergrad and since then it's always interested me. Hopefully I can tackle this tough subject matter and do it justice.

Why Are You Telling Us About This?

I'm letting all of you know that I'm participating so that you can hopefully join me! Also, I want to keep myself accountable. If I know people have a vague idea I'm participating I am far more likely to keep up with day-to-day word counts and actually finish.

Tomorrow is November. If you want to join me go to www.nanowrimo.com and sign up!
