I’ll admit it. I liked the first three books in this series they were my guilty pleasure. The characters were lack-luster, the love interest was totally ridiculous, and I hated how the best friend disappeared and reappeared but there was something that kept drawing me in and forcing me to read the series. I was actually excited to begin Finale, despite the lackluster title. I went in with high expectations for a great ending to the series. Unfortunately all of the bad aspects of this series finally caught up with it and I ended up getting frustrated and not enjoying this “finale”.

Finale begins where Silence ended. Nora is the leader of the Black Hand and is trying to decide between leading the army, ending the war, and how all of this will affect her relationship with Patch. That was fine; in fact the storyline could have been interesting and even sucked me in, had all of the characters not started getting on my nerves very early on. 

Nora has never been a strong heroine, throughout the series she has gotten better but I felt like in Finale all of those steps forward Nora had made throughout the series she took back. She became way jealous about not only Dabria, who was helping Patch, but Marcie as well. She became so jealous that she let it cloud her judgment and miss obvious things. I had no idea why she had such a hatred of Marcie. The girl actually seemed like she was trying but instead Nora was just a total jerk to her over and over again, I actually don’t blame Marcie for treating Nora badly. 

Patch pretty much stayed the same, which isn’t saying much. He was never my favorite character, he was always too protecting and too secretive. I wasn’t really sure until Silence if he really loved Nora or not. In this novel I didn’t doubt his feelings as I had earlier in the series but I doubted whether Patch and Nora should even be together. Nora became a crazy person and I kind of wanted to whisper to Patch “hey man, that girls got crazy eyes you should probably stay away from her”. Alas, even if I had been able to whisper these things he probably wouldn’t have listened. 

That brings us to Vee, Nora’s fat friend. That is literally all I know about this girl. This never bothered me before and I can’t really say why but as Vee disappeared in and out of the story only to reappear right at the end. I started resenting the fact that her character hadn’t been further fleshed out and the fact that the only thing we know about her is her pant size. 

*sigh* This book and me seriously didn’t get along, and the epilogue really didn’t help. I’m not sure why this book rubbed me the wrong way when the rest of the series didn’t. Maybe I’ve grown up since the series began or since the last installment. All I know is that somewhere, something went wrong, and I ended up truly disliking this ending.
