Best of 2012: Heroines

Best of 2012: Heroines

I felt like in a lot of my reviews this year I kept mentioning how strong and generally amazing the female protagonist in the novels I read were. So I decided for my "Bloggers Choice" category I would choose the Top 10 Heroines of 2012!

1. Celaena Sardothien- Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Celaena is a famous assassin and has to compete in a tournament to becomes the King's champion. This championship showcases not only her skills as an assassin but her sharp wit as well. I loved that even though Celaena was an assassin and had a rough upbrining that she still enjoyed pretty dresses and the simple things in life. She was just extra awesome.

I loved Kami because she is an investigative reporter and is always making her own way in life. She was never a follower and was always a leader. I loved that she never stopped searching and was always willing to let the facts take her no matter where they might lead.

I never thought of the story of Peter Pan from Tiger Lily's perspective but after seeing everything she goes through I can't believe I didn't think of her more. I loved this story and the entire reason I loved it so much was because of what a strong character Tiger Lily was.

Alina has always been ordinary and never expected her lfie to change, but after an accident in the Shadow Fold a dormant power is revealed. It was seeing how she handled this new found power and still kept her friends and origins in mind that made her a great heroine.

At a young age Ismae's Father tries to marry her off to a terrible older man but Ismae escapes and becomes a handmaiden for the God of Death. From then on she is an assassin. I really liked the idea of this novel and while it was't on of my favorites this year I did like how strong of a character Ismae was.

I loved that Allie was above all a survivor. She grew up in a post apocalyptic world and when given then option of dying or becoming one of the undead she opts for becoming undead just to survive. I liked this quality about her. I also liked the fact that she cared so much for those around her. It made her all kinds of awesome.

Riley is amazing. I feel like I can't do her character justice without a whole bunch of spoilers so it will have to suffice to say that even though Riley loses her entire family and is the only woman in an entire male business she still remains an absolutely awesome lead that I can't stop reading about!

8. Alyssa Gardner-Splintered by A.G. Howard

I pretty much loved Alyssa from page 1, she could hear flowers talking, did crazy art, and skateboarded but it wasn't until she went to wonderland and had to save everyone around her that I discovered what an awesome heroine she was. I mean totally badass.

Ananna's pirate parents dropped her off to be married to a rival clan and instead of marrying him she decides to run away. Ananna faces assassin's trying to kill her, the rival clan, and a whole mound of other things but throughout everything she holds her own and keeps it together.

10. June Iparis-Legend & Prodigy by Marie Lu

I loved that June was smart, strong, an amazing fighter and that even though she was basically alone she still held her life together. I felt like June embodied what it meant to be both strong and independent.

  9. New follower :) Alina, Ismae, Alyssa... So many strong heroines! I love heroines that don't need to be saved/ protected. Damsels in distress annoy me in general so seeing a list like this makes me happy. Also, Finley from the girl in the steel corset is a super stong heroine (she wears a steel corset for goodness sake)! So, if you haven't read it, you might want to.
