Pyxis by KC Neal

3/5 Stars

Review:
Corinne is just your average teen girl, with a close best friend, and a guy friend that is starting to look more like a boy friend. That is until she finds a mysterious box called the Pyxis and it turns he life upside down.

I loved that Pyxis was a different kind of supernatural story. So often the paranormal element is one of the main three: Vampire, Werewolf, or Demon. This time it was something completely different and by the end of the story even though we had gotten some answers I still wasn't entirely sure what the Pyxis was or what Corinne had to do as the Pyxis.

Usually the romance in a story is my favorite part in Pyxis it really wasn't. I understood Corinne's reasons for not wanting to be in a relationship with Mason in the beginning but as that reason kind of dissipated she still did not want to consider dating him! It made no sense considering how much she liked Mason and how thoughts of him with other girls really bothered her. Hopefully this is better explained in the next book.

I was also really bummed because as the book was ending I really had the feeling that the story was just beginning and then to top it off the story left me on a cliffhanger. That is why I had to deduct a star from my original 4 star opinion of the story, the ending just felt like too much of a cop out.

In sum, I did enjoy this story, while it was a little bit slow it was very realistic and I felt like I was in High School all over again. The characters were all really likable and I have to say Mason was actually my favorite character overall he seemed the most down to Earth and I loved his unwavering loyalty for Corinne in the face of finding out she is the Pyxis. And I will be picking up the sequel The Peril when it releases sometime in 2012!
